The fact that there are bugs that look like leaves and eels with electricity and frogs that ooze out crazy psychedelic poison makes me soo mad like humans don’t have shit ooo my big brain whoopee where’s my fucking night vision or my wings to fly with what the shit evolution u blew it buddy

There are African tribes with the ability to see really well in the dark like a cat can because their retinas aren’t as exposed to artificial light as ours is.

There’s a southeastern tribe in Asia who hunts underwater, able to hunt for 15 minutes down there and can retract their pupils for better vision while hunting.

We have webbing between our fingers so we can swim unlike other primates. While it doesn’t cover the spaces between each finger like a frog’s, it still helps a little.

If your hand is in water long enough, it wrinkles. This wrinkling in your skin gives better traction to grab onto a surface instead of slipping off and falling.

Strange Super-Earth Planet Has ‘Plasma’ Water Atmosphere

A nearby alien planet six times the size of the Earth is covered with a water-rich atmosphere that includes a strange “plasma form” of water, scientists say.

Astronomers have determined that the atmosphere of super-Earth Gliese 1214 b is likely water-rich. However, this exoplanet is no Earth twin. The high temperature and density of the planet give it an atmosphere that differs dramatically from Earth.

“As the temperature and pressure are so high, water is not in a usual form (vapor, liquid, or solid), but in an ionic or plasma form at the bottom the atmosphere — namely the interior — of Gliese 1214 b,” principle investigator Norio Narita of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan told SPACE.com by email.

Question: how is this a super-Earth if its atmosphere is either so hot or so dense, it contains plasma water? I was under the impression that a super-Earth had to be, well, Earth like; not an extremely inhospitable gas giant like this appears to be.

Still, cool discovery.

That’s a good question because a lot of people seem to get a bit confused with the classification of super-Earths. When astronomers tag a planet as ‘super-Earth’ they don’t necessarily mean it’s as hospitable or habitable as Earth is. I’m under the impression that they decided to call this one a super-Earth on the grounds that it has water, maybe not in the form Earth has it but still a noticeable similarity evident enough to call it a super-Earth. But the take-home thing about this is; super-Earth doesn’t mean hospitable/habitable like Earth.

This may be the strangest human brain known to science

Remarkably, this is a photograph of what was once an actual adult human brain — but without the characteristic ridges and folds. But because the patient’s medical records were lost, we may never know what life was like for this person.

Here’s what we do know. The person to whom this extraordinary brain belonged to was a resident of what is now North Texas State Hospital, a mental health facility. He or she died there in 1970. As New Scientist reports, the jar containing the brain is labelled with a reference number, but the microfilm containing the patient’s medical records have been lost.

Scientists have seen this sort of thing before — but not to such an extreme degree. It’s a condition known as agyria, or sometimeslissencephaly, in which the brain lacks the gyri and sulci, the normal ridges and folds that make up the cerebral cortex.

Typically, this condition leads to death by the age of 10 and can cause muscle spasms, seizures, and learning difficulties (on account of reduced surface area). But what makes this sample even more bizarre is that it came from an adult, leading scientists to speculate that the patient likely suffered from severe psychological defects.

Geek Week: Brainiac Tuesday - What Do You Know About Science? - YouTube

Gavin you idiot. I can’t tell if he was serious for half the stuff. XD

Correction for a couple things–

Dinosuars:

A meteor hitting a dinosaur in the neck would most likely kill it. Its neck would not be elongated, it would be crushed.

A tyrannosaur can only evolve into one of two things, a reptile or an avian. Dinosaurs only have two types of pelvis, which classifies them as evolving to lizard or bird. I memory serves, the Tyrannosaur was bird hipped(It could be the other since this is going from memory), thus having it evolve into something of the avian variety. To prove this further, follow the avian-pelvic line to the Hoatzin bird, where the chicks have claws on their wings so they can climb tree branches.

Archaeopteryx are not of the avian variety! Regardless of plumage, they were lizard hipped! They did not evolve to birds!

Brain lobes:

There’s a left lobe and a right lobe. These lobes are segmented into 2 parts(making quartiles). The left lobe does affect the right hand side of the body, and vice versa. However, there is no string that’s attached to make you go mental in the brain if the lobe connection is snapped. If the lobes are separated, you’re most likely dead, so you can’t go mental. Part of why the left lobe affects the right side and not the left is the wiring and “command” of the nervous system. It swaps early back around the Foramen Magnum(that is my understanding of it). Part of what connects the brain is a membrane around it.
