You know, if I was a parent, it would be at this point that I’d rip the game from his hands, stash it in my backpack, and force him to enjoy history goddamnit. This vacation cost a lot and the game is only for the hotel and travel time.

imagine trying to force someone to think that stonehenge is fun

“look kid we’re a ridiculous distance from a bunch of broken rocks how could you possibly be bored this is totally an appropriate vacation spot for someone this age.”

Listen up muthafuckas
I was a kid in this exact position (except I didn’t have a game boy cause my parents didn’t allow me one) (also except that I was in a completely different country). I went to Iran about once a year from the time I was 5. And each time my parents insisted on taking me to historical places that were basically like this, stones in the ground.
And guess what. I was bored to fuckin tears the whole time cause I was alone with no one to play with me. I might’ve been slightly resentful towards my parents at the time cause, uh, I was bored. With nothing to do.
BUT
MUTHAFUCKIN BUT.
I’m 19 now, and I still go to Iran. And I am so fuckin thankful and grateful to my parents that they dragged me to all those cool fuckin places when I was younger. Because I have MEMORIES. I mean, what is this kid gonna remember about this trip? That he played his fuckin game boy the whole time? Fuckin great for him. If he looks back on that time of his life as good, then all the awards for him. But if it was me, I’d be annoyed and full of regret that I didn’t find something cool about what I was doing so I’d have actual memories of actual places doing actual things in the actual world.
My parents took me to cool places from the time I was very young. I have lived an amazing childhood with so many stories. So many stories of cool ruins and fantastical tales of carvings on the walls. If I hadn’t been dragged to these places that I now know are full of infinite historical knowledge, I wouldn’t feel the intimate connection i do with Iran and the people and the culture. And that’s really fuckin important.
/end rant
