Note: If the above statement doesn’t apply to your personal views, then skip the following long-winded answer. I don’t tend to do this on my Tumblr, but I’ve gotten these before, so I think I should address this.
Anon, just because I may not be posting doodles on the subject very often, it doesn’t mean that I’ve stopped drawing any of that. And I’ve never drawn because I felt I was catering to a specific demographic or a group of fans. I draw because I feel like it, because I want to, and because I like something.
Anon, I also hope by your words that you mean there are individuals out there who identify themselves as “bronies” and display certain disgusting behaviors and tendencies. In which case I agree. But then I challenge you to find me one fandom that does not have its problem fanatics. This is why I generally hate labels. People at some point begin to use them as a blanket term in association with any negative incidents and behavior displayed by individual members of the group. It gives off the impression that all the people who identify themselves as such share anything more in common with other members than simply the love of a show or book or film.
I’ve come across many self-proclaimed “bronies”, both male and female, who are very sweet and kind and sincere. And you know what? Many of these are also children, and they hold no other meaning to the label than the fact that they absolutely adore these multi-coloured ponies and a great show and want to reflect that.
But I’ve also read of people, including these children, who have been shamed for liking something because it is growing increasingly commonplace to see the term used negatively. The same goes for adults of any gender. I can’t stop you from using terms as an insult, but know that they contribute to an ever growing problem with how we treat and view one another. I wish people would try to focus more on individuals and each inappropriate behavior displayed rather than making it sound as if a trait is exhibited and shared by an entire group.
If you take issue with the content my blog merely because you don’t like a cartoon, then I don’t know what to say except I am sorry. But I am going continue drawing them when I do feel like it. If you wish to use this as a strike against me, or reason to dislike or unfollow me, I suppose it’s for the better.
I thank you for the support otherwise. I further apologize if this scatterbrained response contradicts itself and fails to make sense. I am riding in a car and beginning to get motion sickness. Hahaha.
Thank you for not judging the entirety of a fanbase on a small handful of individuals.
I really do think it’s silly that we as people have a tendency to do that, and I am really disappointed to see some people being so judgmental and narrow-minded. I would never want to find myself doing that, and anyone who does really should take a step back and think through what harm is being done.
Also, to anyone finding themselves browsing my Tumblr, know that I won’t judge you for liking something. As long as you aren’t being hurtful, I support you liking whatever you want, even if it’s not a mutual interest.
And that’s why I leave my inbox open. If anyone ever needs to vent or let something out where they know at least one person can hear it, you can send me a message without fear of being judged. Anon asks are always on for you all.
