The flopped over fin is a sign of distress. More common in males because their dorsal fin is so large.
Yes, Orcas have killed and attacked in their ‘aquarium’. They are smart animals, called the wolves of the sea. They hunt in packs and can take down LARGER animals such as the Blue Whale, Whale Sharks, and even Great whites.
You took this animal from the ocean and put him or her in the equivalent of a prison cell. They are bored. There is nothing else to do in their ‘cage’ except look at people, and do what their trainers do. When smart animals get bored, bad things happen.
For example, here’s a human example of what happens. Take a known serial killer or deadly gang member and put him in a cell all by himself or maybe with other people. They have 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to figure out “How do I get out of here?” or “What can I do?” They will more than likely attack and kill the guards or other people around them because they are bored and have nothing else to do.
You also have to remember, Orcas are relatives of DOLPHINS. Dolphins and all porpoise play to learn. They are also much larger than us. What’s mistaken as attacking, can be playing. That doesn’t mean what happened here was a result of play, but rather boredom.
This is just another attempt VIA media to make everyone see the ‘truth’ when really they are just showing ONE SIDE of everything.
"The flopped over fin is a sign of distress. More common in males because their dorsal fin is so large.”
Lol never followed then unfollowed so fast before.
It has been proven so many times that this is not the case. That is it water pressure when growing that makes the fin stand up right- NOT distress. The fact these animals are near the surface far more (as that is where all the stimulus is for captive orcas) is what causes it to flop over.
In no way is it a sign of mental problems, unhappiness or any of that fucking shit. It is not a dogs tail that tucks between its legs or a horses ears folding back. It is a fin. It doesn’t emote. It just grows in that way. A handful of wild orcas who have been at the surface a lot or suffered injuries also have flopped fins- though this is far rarer. About 6 I think currently?
Fuck Blackfish and its piles of fucking lies. Yes SeaWorld lies too but by smothering the other side with untruths you make it just as bad- if not worse because you are doing it with the label of ‘we are the scientific mind’ stapled over. This was a shitty ‘documentary’ with a collection of editing techniques and lies to interviewers to push the story all in one direction- in closing down SeaWorld; not just freeing the captive Orcas.
p.s. orcas technically are dolphins, not related to them. :P
baaahhh
