The Elsipogtog Brought Feathers and Canadian Police Brought Assault Weapons

More than 40 members & supporters of the Elsipogtog First Nation have been arrested in a violent crack down at a protest in Canada. The Elsipogtog were protesting the use of their land for this destructive and harmful practice.
 
Was the police response, which included tactical units and snipers, meant to serve public safety, or squelch opposition to fracking in the service of the oil industry?
