I’m probably going to get eaten for saying this but carrying a child for 9 months is not equal to being bound to said child as a responsible parent for eternity because 1) adoption 2) safe spots where babies can be left ie. fire dept, police station. Literally all you have to do is find your local police station drop off the baby and leave. It’s like delivering a muffin basket to a friend.

I don’t know that’s just a thing that is forgotten or ignored sometimes

Adoption is a majorly flawed system where for the most part, only healthy white infants get adopted, and it’s only an alternative to parenthood, not pregnancy. Which uses the person’s body for closer to ten months. The entire process costs about $9000 before childbirth, and childbirth itself averages $30k in a hospital in the US.

Please put your tired arguments back where they came from and try again.

Why do people always think that’s an easy solution? Pregnancy can be hellish, it really can. Giving up a baby is not all that easy, even if you decided adoption from the moment you found out you were pregnant. 

And safe haven laws? They don’t exist nearly as much as you think they do. You do not drop a child off “like a basket of muffins” (which, by the way, makes you sound like you care far less for life than you’re attempting to make pro-choice people appear to). And even with safe haven laws there is nothing saying you won’t get a police officer who doesn’t believe in it and won’t get thrown in jail for neglect or something, and you can (and probably will) get ostracized by your community for making use of those laws. 

I should not have to subject my body to awful things, suffer for months and months, go through hell with delivering a baby, permanently change my body, and then get shit for doing something that’s the best for both of us. And sometimes, abortion IS what’s best.

You have a right to choose what’s best for you and your child. You have no right to make us do what you, who don’t even know these women or their situations, think we should do.

Pretty easy to tell others what to do when you’re sitting on your high horse miles and miles and miles away, isn’t it?

Now get your nose out of the air. You’re going to get altitude sickness.

People seem to forget that pregnancy is a SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITION.

My sister almost DIED from being pregnant, and that was with a child she actually wanted to keep around. 

Pregnancy comes with a plethora of terrible, life-altering side-effects for a good chunk of women, as well as some annoying and disgusting ones, including:

• Permanent body-chemistry changes.
• Severe weight gain that you’re unable to lose.
• POSSIBLE UTERINE AND BLADDER PROLAPSE.
• Sometimes-permanent high blood pressure.
• Pregnancy-related diabetes or anemia which can permanently damage your body.
• Pregnancy-related depression, both during and after said pregnancy, which is a huge cause of suicide and suicide attempts. 
• Pre-eclampsia (what my sister had an emergency C-section for), which can lead to eclampsia, which is a fatal condition for both the fetus and the mother.
• Occasionally the doctor will administer the epidural incorrectly and it will lead to BRAIN DAMAGE. This happened to a friend of the family and she very nearly DIED.
• EPISIOTOMY. Look it up, be terrified.
• Sometimes you shit yourself mid-labor. Things they don’t tell you when planning for that bundle of joy!
• Sometimes the baby shits themselves mid-labor. My sister actually had a bowel movement in utero, so she came out covered in feces. Yum.
• PREGNANCY IS EXPENSIVE. My sister and I were both born on the military’s dime, but my sister just recently had a baby and the cost, even with insurance, was immense (prenatal care + the cost of the emergency operation + postnatal care in the NICU + my sister’s hospital stay + the cost of gas to and from Reno regularly because the hospital in Carson City sucks and you don’t want them caring for your preemie newborn). Not to mention that the US doesn’t have mandated paid maternity leave so because she had to be out of work for far longer than they thought because she had to have invasive surgery instead of a normal birth, they almost got evicted. 
• Some ridiculous statistic like one in five women will die in childbirth, because once again: PREGNANCY IS A DANGEROUS MEDICAL CONDITION. That’s one in five in developed countries, like the US (I actually think our birth mortality rate might be slightly higher because of the lack of prenatal care available to most mothers, due to cost). 

That is all even assuming that the person in question is capable of carrying a pregnancy to term. What about young rape victims? I’m talking under 14 (fun fact: some young women are capable of getting pregnant up to six months prior to their first menses, so some young women are fully capable of getting pregnant at EIGHT YEARS OF AGE). What about people who are not psychologically capable of dealing with a pregnancy, such as those suffering from body dysmorphia or severe obsessive-compulsive disorder or severe schizophrenia? What about a woman who has a child and has been warned, for her own safety, not to have another?

What about someone who just flat-out does not want children? I’m almost 29 years old and married, and I in no way want children. Ever. It is not happening. I do not want a thing growing inside of me. I do not want the responsibility of raising children. I do not want to deal with the high-pitched screeching children will invariably produce because I have autism and it sets off a clusterfuck of bullshit when I’m around it for long periods of time. 

Are you telling me that I, a 29-year-old female married to a male capable of knocking me up, am not allowed to have sex with said husband just because I know myself well enough to know that I would be a TERRIBLE mother? I mean, we try to be careful - we use protection - but trust me, if an accident happened and I couldn’t get Plan B fast enough I’d be at Planned Parenthood so fast there’d be skid marks in the driveway and I would feel not an iota of shame for obtaining said abortion. 

I know, because I’ve been pregnant before and when I miscarried I felt nothing but relief, despite the agonizing pain. I have never considered suicide so seriously as when I was pregnant. 

You read that right: I would rather be dead than be pregnant.

People who argue so-called pro-life stances seem to forget that not everyone wants a kid. Don’t you think it’s important that every child is brought into this world wanted and loved and cared for? Don’t you think?

The huge glut of children in the foster care system proves that no, not every child is brought into the world wanted. I think that, far more than abortion, is something this society should be ashamed of. 

I’m pro-life in that I choose to care for children who are already alive and suffering. I support maternity leave laws. I support a welfare system that doesn’t shame those who require help to care for their wanted children. I support free and low-cost pre-natal care for those who want to be parents. THAT is pro-life. Not protesting abortion.

I’m pro-choice because I choose to applaud those with uteruses who make the decision to abort rather than bring an unwanted child (or one they are incapable of caring for) into this world. I stand with them, I support them. I will escort them into the building so they feel safe, if need be. 

I will protect them from people like you. I will donate to Planned Parenthood and other pro-choice organizations until my death. And if you have a problem with that, you can kiss the fattest part of my non-reproducing ass.

like for real no child should ever have to go through that nonsense if they do not absolutely have to

I mean first of all you have to skin the baby and then cook it. And muffins can be really expensive too.

If abortions do become illegal everywhere, then people may or may not go for infanticide over adoption agencies. Adopted children go through a lot of stress when they grow up, encountering many twists that make things worse. Abortions just extract a small cluster of cells, not a ready to be born baby. But there are also cases where abortions are desperately needed. Some women are told that they can’t have children of their own because of a disorder, physical weakness, or disease that disables that ability. If they happen to have sex in some way such as rape, then they have no real choice but to somehow extract any offspring that is being created. If the government can’t open their goddamn eyes and get out of our personal space, then there really is no hope left for the US. Abortion is a personal matter, a thing the government really has no right and reason to be in. They could try to fix oher matters better such as the huge debts we owe for countries or the poor and homeless or even.. I dunno… JOB VACANCY AND RETIREMENT FUNDS FOR PEOPLE??
