do you guys remember that one post about how men feel entitled to take up so much space and women have to deal with a lot less?

This is actually a documented thing. You always see men on the subway or tube or whatever using both armrests while women sit with their arms hunched together into their laps. That’s why I always make a point to take up at least one if not both armrests of the tube so men can be uncomfortable for once.

^ again, for all the people telling me posting this picture is complaining too much.

In my college classes (and high school too) guys were always stretching, sticking fists and elbows in my face, leaning their heads back over my desk, over my work, spreading their legs out, kicking my bag with their dirty shoes. And let’s not pretend they were in other guys’ space as much as they were in women’s.

It’s so true, this happens to me every day on the train. Same with the walking thing, women will weave out of the way whereas men just walk straight and plow down anything in their path. I always end up playing chicken with men on the sidewalk now, because I refuse to move out of their way.

I love playing chicken with dudes who hog the sidewalk. BODY CHECK! Fucking assholes.

Men always have the same defensive bullshit to spout every time they get called out on their shit. AND IT IS BORING. They remind me of those toys where you pull a string an they have like 5 phrases they can say. Over and over and over.

same here with playing chicken, its hilarious sometimes because they get this flash of realization in their eyes that says ‘holy shit, she’s NOT going to move/??? what do????’ because THEY ARE SO USED TO EVERYONE MOVING FOR THEM

when i was younger my grandpa drew this on a piece of paper,

and he asked me how i, as the red circle, would get around the two people (black circles) if i was walking down the street.

so of course i came back with

moving out of the way for them as i walked.

he asked me if i thought men would do the same and, at the time, i did because i thought it was just common courtesy. but he told me that men would barrel straight through without giving a shit and that i should do the exact same. because i was the one walking and they were the ones in the way. so that’s exactly what i do.

I admit, I used to stretch my legs out a lot, but that’s mainly because I’m a 6’3” gangly toothpick. I’ve gotten out of the habit of taking up a lot of space.

Honestly, though, that’s not what offends me. What offends me so much about this is the “‘NOT ALL MEN ARE LIKE THIS’ FUCK OFF” comment.

Like seriously, I understand that a lot of guys are assholes. I fucking get it, okay? But the moment that I’m grouped into the “asshole” category just because I have a penis, I take offense to that.

So maybe this’ll be the same “defensive bullshit” to you, who gives two shits. But at least give more examples of the “5 phrases” that we men as “string dolls” say. My arguments may suck, but at least make a better one on your side.

Instead of spreading so much fucking hate, why don’t you understand that some people are assholes, regardless of whatever the hell is in their pants?

Seriously? People are going act like “‘NOT ALL MEN ARE LIKE THIS’ FUCK OFF” SERIOUSLY!? It is common courtesy to move out of the way. Why in the world would anyone want to bump into you? It is one to be upset, but it is another to move down to their level. I don’t know about anyone else, but I was taught to treat others as I would like to be treated. I am sorry that not everyone is like that, but what can you do? You cannot change everyone, and there will always be a few idiots, regardless of gender!!!

Also, doesn’t anyone think that maybe JUST MAYBE they like to keep to themselves? I know when I’m sitting next to someone in the bus, I move everything closer to my chest. Why? Because I feel more comfortable that way. Maybe the other person, male or female, doesn’t have such a big personal space bubble as me, but I really don’t care.

Another thing, NOT ALL GUYS ARE LIKE THIS!!! Quit generalizing. One time on the bus, a guy asked if he could sit next to me. When there was another seat available, guess what he did! HE MOVED.

Just for the record, I’ve seen girls do the ‘blockade strut’ before as well, where they take up space than necessary when moving. However, the most I EVER see it is when it’s a couple who is insistent on holding hands or being together—or even sometimes just groups of friends who refuse to part or file in line momentarily to let you pass—groups that have been all male, all female, and mixed.

Yeah, on their own, I will say guys do it the most, especially when it’s an animalistic display of ‘dominance’. It’s irritating as fuck to not only girls but other guys as well who aren’t as immature and don’t see the need.

But seriously, you’d have to be mentally damaged to actually dismiss that ‘not all guys are like this,’ because seriously, douchebag status doesn’t depend on whether or you have a penis. Douchebag status only depends on whether or not you act like a douchebag.

Two things:

The only space I take up is table space. I always have four distinct regions on the table: workspace, textbook, doodle space and pencil case. No seriously, that’s it.

The other thing is:

In junior high, I remember a group of four boys who would just be dicks, link arms and take up the whole hallway. Students either went through the music ramp and down the stairs to the rotunda or tried to break them apart to get past. One day, I was right behind them. My personal “Fuck you” was really just a quick shove in the middle to set them off balance and dart past them. After that, everyone behind me was screwed from the linkage.
