A police officer compares his sidearm to a BB gun recovered during a school fight. (reddit)

So can we stop accusing cops of being stupid for not seeing the difference

insanityisfree

I don’t accuse cops of being stupid. I accuse cops of being inclined to shoot first, and find out it was a bb gun later. Cops should be able to have a conversation before ending the life of one who probably knows no better than to keep holing a toy. The cops should resolve conflicts, or stop lying about being there to protect and serve. If they won’t wait to find out the nature of a thing, their slogan should be “to kill who might pose a threat”. RIP Tamir Rice.

You point a gun at me, I’m blowing your brains out. And I say that as a civilian. If you, on the fly, point a gun at ANYONE, if you are made a jellyheaded corpse that very instant, you deserved the bullet. End of discussion. I will not ask questions, I will tell you to drop the gun and if that action isn’t carried out, I will drop the hammer. And that doesn’t just apply to cops. I’m not gonna wait to find out if you’re pointing a real gun and I’m MOST CERTAINLY not gonna wait to see how good of a shot you are. Fuck that noise and fuck your “logic”.

But… But…. It’s just a toy! ^ I agree with them

Whoa, we got a badass over here. I doubt you’re blowing anybody’s brains out in your lifetime, buddy.

Cops are sworn to protect the peace. Murdering someone for pointing a gun at them is not really upholding that vow. Police officers have extensive training for situations like this. That’s why there’s a difference between them and civilians; cops are supposed to make every reasonable effort to preserve the lives of criminals so they can be tried in a court of law, as is their constitutional right.

this-is-cthulhu-privilege

Cops are not actually trained to be able to tell the difference between a fake gun (toy/airsoft/BB) in less than a moment and from what will most likely be a distance of 10ft+. Toy guns are supposed to have bright orange tips to make them easily identifiable as toys, but this is easily gotten around by painting and blueing them. While I wouldnt have stated it with the machismo above, I would most certainly side with the officer in a case of a realistic looking weapon.

Also, Ive used real pistols and BB pistols like above. once again, even if youre holding it, you really cant tell the difference. These guns are made to look like real weapons. You also really cant tell the difference between a BB rifle and a .22. All you know is one cant kill you, and the other can.

Here is a BB pistol that looks like a glock

Now here is a real glock

Now, with a moments notice and less than a second to make a decision, how is anyone, law enforcement or other wise, reasonably expected to make a decision on

a)to defend themselves

b)shoot someone

I dont think police should have to wait for the person to fire to see if its real or not.

In cases like this I do support the police and if I was in the same position, I would keep my best interest (Not possibly being shot, killed, or worse) in mind and shoot.

Now when something happens like when a cop shoots some kid playing laser tag in the woods, hell no.

dontneedfeminism

People who think cops shouldn’t be allowed to defend themselves against someone who, for all they know, is pulling a real gun on them, are fucking stupid.

You pull a weapon on a cop, you get shot. End of story. Once you’ve pulled out that weapon, you’re both a threat and a criminal, and anyone, cop or not, is well within their rights to gun you the fuck down.
